We haven't yet gone to Costco this year, haven't yet renewed our membership. We're waiting to build up our grocery budget reserves, and to be out of five staples before we go. Coffee is one of those items, and it's apparently pretty cheap to get through Amazon. Amazon Prime Membership is $79 a year versus $65 a year for Costco, no pushing a cart past people, no ten minute wait at checkout, no hassle trying to find a parking spot a mere 200 yards from the store... Costco isn't that far from our house, a mere fifteen minute drive.

Update:
OF COURSE the day I think of getting Amazon Prime the company thinks of upping the annual cost from $79 to $99 or even $119. I'm compiling a list of things I usually get at Costco, or even at Vitamin places or department stores, their average or latest prices, how often I buy them, and how much they cost on Amazon. If I end up saving $150 despite Amazon Prime, I'll jump. But if I were dozens of miles from a Costco, this'd be a no-brainer.

I am a big fan of Amazon Prime! I think one of the main advantages is that it keeps me out of stores; when I'm in the store, there are impulse buys! So I buy all sorts of things on there (bday presents for F's friends, just bought toner for the printer). And I usually find the best prices on Amazon. And all the things you mentioned.... On the other hand, we don't have a Costco near us; it's an hour away.

I never realized it was against the rules to share a Costco card membership with DSIL so it continues. Can you tag along with friend, colleague, neighbour, relative for occasional forays to Costco?

We like our Amazon Prime. Quite a few things are cheaper, and we use our Prime membership to stream instant movies and videos. I probably had 10 packages arrive from Amazon in December alone! I'd be out looking for something, come home, find it on Amazon and place the order. Not exactly efficient, but I did find what I needed and at a lower price.

I never heard (though never checked).. Amazon prime sells food stuffs too? is shipping free though. Let me know.. sounds like a GREAT idea if they have the same stuff as Costco. Do you get discounts as a member?

I purchased amazon prime at Christmas for the streaming movies and tv shows. They are a bit of a disappointment because they are always trying to sell you services and not every video is free. However, I really have enjoyed some of the free videos. Also, I find I buy more stuff from Amazon because of the free shipping, so I have to be careful.

I like the Costco membership because of the potential for stocking up on certain items. I have a Costco American Express and I buy their gasoline (usually cheapest in town) and I do get a lot of things at Costco. The cost for dog food for my 4 dogs is 50% less at Costco, which makes it worth while for dog food purchases alone. Two 50 lb. bags save me $50, which really pays for the membership.

I like Kirkland paper towels and toilet paper. I like the $5 roast chicken, and the $10 huge pizza which can feed even my nephews (OMG 20 year olds can EAT HUGE QUANTITIES).
