People on a higher spiritual plane would not look kindly on me, but I would not mind causing pain to the credit card fraudsters who use(d) our landline number so we get calls from collection agencies. Way to be good citizens, scum-of-the-earth!

I have been civil and calm talking to live people who call, because although they're collection agency staff, they are looking for people who steal and skip their responsibilities, and they cry and rage the same as I do. No sense making someone else's day bad due to some scamster who would probably chop his grandma at the knees for drugs, or pee on some blind person taking the bus somewhere. Such decency. In this case, I Googled the phone number that telephoned and it's an agency that collects on unpaid tickets.

    We have received collection calls recently...usually for extended family members. I deny knowing them. I do not want to get involved on any level.

    I've been going through this for the past 4 years. I was listed in the phone book with my first initial and last name. Some deadbeat guy with the same 1st initial and last name used my phone number and opened accounts and then didn't pay. I get credit agencies calling for 6 months (and I politely tell them Jimmy doesn't live at this number - some are nice and some obviously don't believe me) then it's quiet for 6 months and the calls start all over again. One person explained to me that the account keeps getting sold to new credit collection agencies and that's why I get new calls. No amount of explaining seems to stop this merry-go-round...

    Dr. Orpheus is my fave character on Venture Bros., nmboone. I like to imagine the dramatic music when I type my finance blog entries. [fist shaking, music cue] "WHO is ANTHONY DiMENZA, AND WHY AM I GETTING COLLECTION AGENCY CALLS FOR HIM?!"

    In the last week I read about a guy who sued collection agencies after they made harassing calls. He made much more than pocket change.
