OT -- Fellow bloggers: Did prayer help you with your job search?

July 10th, 2008 at 12:19 pm

I've seen posts where people are looking for work, and report upcoming interviews, or blog when they're waiting to find out. Comments along the lines of "we're rooting for you!" "Keeping you in my prayers!" "holding a good thought for you" ensue.

If you posted about an upcoming interview, and you received those comments, did you get what you wanted? Or did something better come along very soon after?

I'm going to assume that commenters honestly made the effort to align the universal unconscious with the poster's stated goal: if you've been a commenter, have you charted your success/failure rate?

I'm asking as I'm both applying for a job that seems a GREAT FIT for me, and WELL-TIMED, and also because I'm praying for something else (nonmaterial/nonphysical) at the moment. The only downside I can think of is that I'd probably have to start riding the scooter or taking the car to work or waking up early to catch two buses each commute, with extra fare.

I believe in the power of prayer (after makeing a recent conscious effort to fully embrace the Christian faith I was born into and am passing on too my children). I have seen recently how prayer can help (whether it is to stay solvent, or be assigned a Group to go and pick up a new child in Ethiopia, or for a miraculous recovery from a serious auto-related injury for my DD10s classmate). I will say a prayer that you Q,MV's unspoken intention and job search success. Peace and prayers, momcents

If it works out, momcents, I will 'publish' my thanks either in a comment on your blog, or as a blog post if the Good Thought Express gathers a crowd. Bless you for thinking of me!

It does work!...while I was job hunting, I had these 2 opportunities...one in Austria, and one here in ES...believe me, I really wanted to go to Austria (but was a bit afraid, I cannot deny it)...I prayed and told God I really wanted to go to A, but would do whathever He felt was better for me, my daughter and my family...wouldn't you know, I had a flat tire on my way to the interview for the job in A...AND, once THIS job came through, I still had another interview pending before a decision was reached about the other one, and the people here needed a decision that same afternoon...
AND...I really got all I prayed for (before even thinking about leaving the country), which was:
    1. a job that paid better (I'm now close to making 2x what I was at the last job...not counting the translations!)
    2. Where I had a chance to make a difference (working for a USG corporation on a project that has the potential to change the lives of thousands of Salvadorans in the poorest part of the country)
    3. where I would be appreciated (I am)
    4. where I liked my co-workers (I do)
    5. close to my house (5 blocks away!)
    6. with a schedule that would allow me to spend more time with my daughter (I am usually at home by 5:30pm...the earliest I LEFT the previous job was 6:30pm)
    7. and potentially have time/energy for the translations (I do!)
    8. and with good benefits (13 salaries per year, full medical, life insurance, 15 working days vacation + holidays!)

I will pray that God sends you a great opportunity!

It does work. DH was laid off, and I asked for prayers and help at a Church meeting one Sunday morning. The missionaries soon thereafter saw a "for hire" sign on a truck and DH called it, got a voicemail, and hung-up. The owner whose # he called called him back and scheduled an interview. He went in to try to get an equipment operator position, and came out a project manager. He's getting a ton of experience and it is right in line with the degree he is pursuing. Somebody up there really desires to help us, better than we can imagine.

I never really pray for the job to turn out, I pray for whatever is best to happen. I prayed alot and got no job, so I figured HE was telling me I was still needed at home with my kids. Now, my husband thinks otherwise, so I am praying that whatever is best will happen. I am still waiting. But good luck to you, it sounds like it would be perfect!!

I personally don't believe there is a sentient being of a higher power. However, on the off-chance I'm wrong, I always accept well wishes in whatever religious form they come! Plus, there have been studies that keeping a positive attitude can get you through illnesses and that people with social networks live longer than isolated people. So maybe even knowing that people are praying for one, helps one envision success and reach it.
