today in spending

January 28th, 2012 at 02:28 am

I saw a Seattle Councilmember come into the closing-fast Greenwood Market. We were lured in by the Everything Up to 40% off signs but wow, now that I have my price book I can see how marked up the merchandise was even with the discounts! Finds: some Saint Andre super-butterfat Brie to use for a posh pasta carbonara with walnuts, kombucha which actually WAS a deal with discount, butter. We were careful about our purchases until we left the dairy and produce, sigh.

As we left, the beginning notes of Talk Talk's "It's My Life" caught me. "You guys go on ahead, I'll catch up," I said. The lads walked as far as the main ingress/egress where the speakers are when my son stopped and said "No I'm staying until the song is over." We took turns at the water fountain until the song ended, good times. I wonder if the Councilmember likes Talk Talk.

Oh yeah, as of today I finally have enough $$ to feel comfortable buying a Prius should our car die tomorrow.

I bought some St. Andre's cheese today, too. It is sooooo yummy. I just eat it on multi-grain crackers though, nothing fancy.

    Love Talk Talk.
Aren't they a little after your time. More like in my time.

I haven't set foot in there for a couple of weeks. I'm very depressed about their closing. FYI the Fred Meyer next door is also unloading their inventory because they are closing for renovations.

I've never heard of Talk Talk, I must google. By the way, way to go on saving for a car and I have my fingers crossed that you can drive your current car for awhile

Hey--great to meet that Prius goal.
    My DH LOVES Talk Talk.

@baselle I can empathize. First BECU then Greenwood Market... what happened to the benefits of urban density? We were almost at Gainsbourg today except it opens at 4 pm. So we went to Teddy's. BTW the Councilmember was Tim Burgess.

    @katwoman you flatter me!

@My English Castle Your husband has exquisite taste. I'll put aside the suppositions that he also loves New Order and has read Sue Townsend's Adrian Mole series and was at one point, an angsty fifteen-year-old in the Midlands.

@Amber thanks! Be sure to burn some sage when you move in to your new place!

@Lucky Robin I haven't had Saint Andre before. I do like soft cheese on crackers: good way to while away a lazy weekend afternoon!

    Sage? Why sage?

Sage is part of a purification out-with-the-old/in-with-the-new ceremony. If you're sensitive to other people's "bad energy" or "attack vibes", the ritual of burning sage could be palliative, or at worst a memorable psychological placebo.

Paulette: Yes to new Order and Adrian Mole--but no Midlands for that one. He's from way down south--of Portsmouth.

What the hell is wrong with me? I meant to say that Talk Talk is BEFORE your time! Obviously, you understood what I really wanted to say since you were so gracious.

See what growing old does to you? Just ignore me from now on.

@katwoman Please be kind to yourself. I failed reading comprehension and read what you intended instead of what you typed. So we're good! No worries!
