Into the spending pit I go

April 13th, 2012 at 04:47 am

or is it investing pit?
Getting numbers of painters and landscapers.

Spent $330+ on car service: Oxygen sensor was starting to go, that would explain getting below 22 mpg, which I didn't think was possible with our car. Spent $50 on a Nine West watch at Macy's. I wanted a watch, longed for the Betsey Johnson watches available at Nordstrom but we're poor, so we paid for a watch we are to pick up on the 25th or later, at 25% discount.

naturally if we do move, we will be buying a new car with some proceeds. Not that there's any difference between doing that and buying a car with the HELOC...

Does the idea of spending make you anxious, Paulette? My impending windows are making me worried. I need to lighten up.

New car eh? Just don't drive by the pergola. (not again).

@baselle I don't live in Pioneer Square, so no demolishing a historic landmark for me. I was irritated after reading about the pergola!

@MyEnglishCastle spending does make me freak out. Estimating costs is never an exact science, so there's the fear of the unknown, and I've probably chased more blog readers away with yap about the roof I replaced than with the sad "Andy's Gang" or "John Daker: Superstar" videos.
$5000 is a hefty expense, at least from my perspective. We paid $10K for ours, but I don't begrudge the expense. It's worth it to see monthly heating bills go no higher than $140. The renters I talk to tell me they're sick of paying $1300 a year for heating or freezing in the winter. Maybe I should rent my house to them!

At least I have comfort knowing that I will not overspend on my house to the point where I am upside down. I have empathy for those who bought at the wrong time, but not for those who bought at a better time but thought the equity roller coaster went only one way (up) and overdeveloped and overspent.

This is always kind of "My Issues with $" shrink session at SA, isn't it? And the $5K was only the deposit on the first half of the windows. Sigh.
