I spent money on myself guilt-free today

September 23rd, 2011 at 12:38 am

I took a Chinook Book coupon down to Take 2 Consignment and bought: one Benetton sweater, one pair wool pants, one silver-plated heart-motif cuff, one pair cashmere socks and one angora short-sleeved top, the latter of which will probably serve as a "party doll" for my cat if I do not take care of it.

With tax, $103 and change.

Despite the supposed obesity epidemic in the U.S., I found the pickings for size 12+ sparse in this quality consignment shop.

Not yet purchased boots: I found some cute ones at the consignment shop but they were ankle boots. OTOH they had a nice heel and scaring people in sexy boots will be key as a campaign coordinator and supporter for he challenger, as the incumbent is a 5'5" male.

In the boots I would be over six feet.

When I was a size 18, thrift store pickings were slim. I'm now in the size 10-12 and the pickings were better. In other words, they've always been slim. If one gets larger, one donates the small. Big Grin

I was at estate sale last month at a very ritzy house, and there was pure mayhem in the master bedroom closet. They had size 10 and 12 clothes and size 8 and 9 shoes, and it was crazy. and hey Paulette--I went for a walk today!

I have found the same phenomenon at thrift shops. Nothing in the bigger sizes -- tons in the small and medium. Do smaller people just buy more, and thus get rid of more clothes?

I won't shop vintage anymore: even when I was 25 pounds lighter I couldn't find anything that didn't make me look like Margaret Dumont.

If baselle can drop down four sizes, I should be able to get back to 10. Unfortunately this will take exercise.

I will do energy exercises today. I am feeling brain-dead and dopey owing to a nearby condominium fire and my cat bustling into my paper bag to ask the angora rabbit top out on a date. (He left it on the floor without flowers or a note, the cad.)

So far its meat, leaves, nuts, 2X/week workouts and walking ... mostly taking buses that drop me off about 1 mi from home, forcing me to walk it.

It's the walking for me--and no sugar. Back to it tomorrow.

The only sugar I have is from fruit and raw honey in my coffee. Yet I am still larded about the midsection. I drink lots of water daily. I went on alternate starches: kasha, millet, quinoa, brown rice, buckwheat soba noodles, polenta. I abstained from white flour. Yet I am still larded about the midsection. I took ibuprofen. Blast.

Bleah--it's that way, isn't it? And I've resigned myself (well, sort of) that it'll be a constant battle for the rest of my life. My aunts are almost 90 and I can see myself slowly morphing into their voluminous body shapes.

The big twist on this diet is no whole grains *at all* and no beans - no soy, black, garbanzo, green, navy, etc. I know, nutty, weird and creepy.

Yet it is working for me - slowly maybe because I'm not going to beat myself up over eating a quiche crust once a week - because the scale is going down and I have less muffin top on the jeans.

yeah--it works for me that way too. But Thursday night is spaghetti night at our house. And if a gal can't have spaghetti once a week, well, then my aunts' fate doesn't seem so bad.
